Carnaval Circuito

There are three Carnival rutes or "Circuits":

  1. The Campo Grande - Praça Castro Alves Circuit (also known as the “Osmar” Circuit, or “Avenidas”).
  2. The Barra - Ondina Circuit (also known as “Dodô” Circuit)
  3. The Pelourinho Circuit, (also known as “Batatinha” Circuit)

1. The Campo Grande - Praça Castro Alves Circuit is the oldest rute of Salvador Carnival. Carnival's official opening is at Campo Grande (city main square), and this is where the Carnival blocos are evaluated by a panel of judges.

The trio electricos move away from Campo Grande and down Avenida Sete de Setembro to Praça Castro Alves and returns to Campo Grande again.

The circuit is six kilometers long and takes around 6 hours from start to end.

2. The Barra - Ondina Circuit came later than the Osmar Circuit. The trios start at the Farol da Barra (Lighthouse) and move four kilometers along the coast until reaching the part of Salvador called Ondina. The most popular musicians and artists tend to be on this circuit.

This circuit takes around five hours to complete.

3. The Pelourinho Circuit came last of the three circuits and was demanded by families because of its calm programming. It takes you around the historical area of Salvador. The circuit has no Trio Electricos, but has marching bands as in the old days and people with kids in costume.

The stage built in front of the City Hall, on Municipal Square, has become famous due to the parades and fantasy contests occurring there.
